Cost 只用於花費「多少金額」，主詞是物品或it 。Cost不用在花時間且主詞不會是人。例：
The laptop cost me $45,000.（這筆記型電腦花了我45,000元。）

Cost 也可以是名詞，是指花費或開銷。例：
The cost of the tour is $6,000 each person.（團費是每人6,000元。）

Take 只用於花費「時間」，主詞可以是it 或花時間做的事。注意take後加所做的事時，要用to＋動詞，放句首時要用動名詞。例：
It took me 3 hours to write the report.（我花了3小時寫這報告。）
Writing the report took me 3 hours.（寫這報告花了我3小時。）

Spend 只能以人當主詞，和cost，take不同的是，人是「有選擇」地花費金錢或時間在某件事物上。例：
I spend 1 hour exercising every morning.（我每天早上花1小時運動。）要注意花多少時間做某事時，事情要用動名詞（V-ing）
I spent $5,000 on the suitcase.（我花5千元買這個行李箱。）花多少錢在某樣物品上時，介係詞要用on。
